The United State's Occupation of Greenland
February 4th 2026
To what degree?
In 2019, then President Donald Trump remarked that Greenland was, “a necessity to US national security.” The brevity and exact tone of that remark remains unclear today but the seriousness of the President now appears unquestioned, “will the US occupy Greenland? And to what extent?”
"A necessity to National Security."
Not one to back off of his campaign promises Donald Trump has guaranteed, “full access,” as of January 2026, in what he calls a pre-cursor to further, “negotiations,” concerning the island. Mainstream media source's have cited minerals and Arctic shipping lanes as proper motivation's for such a, “deal,” but the European Union has made it clear that Greenland’s sovereignty (*or potential to become the 51st state of the USA) is off of the table and that American ambitions will be met with hostility if they are to become militarized. In fact, just this week NATO allies called America’s ambition towards “acquiring Greenland," was, “a red line that cannot be uncrossed in terms of foreign relations.” But what does the EU mean exactly when they threaten the US's position within NATO? The US finances more than half of the military operations in NATO and removal of the US from the alliance is almost comical?
Furthermore, what is President Trump’s agenda? While most reporter’s and government officials agree that the US has both, “a fair claim,” as well as, “proper motivations in the form of minerals and shipping lanes,” to lay siege to the property, what price is the US willing to pay for the island? And all of those question's are swirling today. Furthermore, the people of Greenland, some 50k tribal villager’s… seek their own sovereignty but what military will those 50k Greenlander's conjure up... in the event that the island is attacked by another foreign nation? Like China or Russia?
50,000 vs 350,000,000
In this way, the opinion of the 50k resident's on the island is somewhat irrelevant as; 1) those 50k people represent a very small number of people compared to that of their surrounding nation's, rendering them incapable of defending the island themselves. 2) The island is at a pivotal strategic “corridor” for future US ambition's within the Arctic, particularly in terms of TRADING with Russia, whereby, the US can ship oil quickly through Arctic seaway's to China and Russia.
Money Talks
So, what price will the US pay for the island? And to what degree will the US, “take ownership?”
President Trump has claimed that he has secured, “full access to the island,” however, military intervention has been ruled out completely as European leaders threatened to take military action towards the US in the event of an attack on the island. Regardless, Denmark’s territorial right to the island, along with the 50k resident's territorial right to the island is largely superseded by the 350,000,000 American's necessity to acquire the island, as well as the European Union's 1-2 trillion dollar investment into the island, over the past century.
A price tag for the island would likely be around the 1 trillion dollar mark and while most European agency’s claim a sale is, “non-negotiable,” those with any knowledge of Donald Trump at all, know that he will likely be crunching numbers for the remainder of his term in order to strike a deal. 1 trillion US dollars is an obvious number, but the European Union will then want more… not wanting to seem foolish in future Century’s. The US then might offer a tech company like Apple or Meta to HQ in Europe, whereby, there could be a number of consequences to this negotiation. In fact, I could see Germany acquiring “Apple” in the negotiation and the number being cut to 750 billion US.
A Greenland Lottery?
Regardless; to what extent will the US occupy? Is this strictly military? And what goals might the President himself have for the island? Enriching minerals is one thing but occupation is another. Furthermore, while the thought of military intervention is beseeching better minds the reality of occupation is what truly defines boundaries. Or is this another one of the President's, "internal jokes," about open borders? To which I say, “lottery the land.”
Imagine this;
-Military veteran's.
-Active servicemen.
-College graduates.
-And 5+ year taxpayers…
Allow those individuals to enter an OPTIONAL LOTTERY.
Give everyone a; POP UP HOME + SEPTIC TANK, STAR LINK INTERNET and 5k dollars a year... THEN REQUIRE 2 YEAR'S ON THE ISLAND AS A MANDATORY STAY AND LET AMERICAN'S LIVE THERE. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COULD EVEN CREATE MANDATORY GUN LAWS, REQUIRING US CITIZEN'S TO OWN A GUN, as a pseudo military operation AND PUT 500k ARMED AMERICAN'S THERE.
THEN BY SHEER NUMBERS... the US would control the island.
Now, we never know exactly what, "the Mad Scientist,” Donald Trump, is up to.
However, if his judgment is that the island is of a significant importance then I think that a lot of Americans would support him in occupying the island.
And if American's OCCUPY the island… then what is the point of a negotiation? But in respect to the EU... give them Apple. Isn't Apple kind of a, "German company," anyway? Put Apple in Berlin and call it even.
